Where the Lion Reigns — Chelsea introduce their most composed home look yet
Chelsea have unveiled their new home shirt for the upcoming 2026/27 season. Chelsea and nike have opted for a heritage-driven approach with the new home strip, celebrating 75 years since Ted Drake reshaped the club’s identity. The kit does stay true to the history of Chelsea’s traditional royal blue roots, but some of the details give it a distinctive modern character.
The standout feature for me is the pattern across the shirt, which is unique and gives the shirt a fresh feeling. From a distance, the shirt appears clean and traditional, but closer inspection reveals an oversized Chelsea crest woven throughout the fabric, rewarding attention to detail. The yellow accent that runs down the side of the shirt creates a strong contrast against the royal blue base without overwhelming the design. The colour choice also helps highlight key elements such as the crest and Swoosh.
The fold-over polo collar adds a touch of sophistication and gives the shirt a retro-inspired feel that complements the historical theme behind the kit. That’s a detail we’ve seen many of the top teams introduce to innovate their designs. While it does look stylish, collars can divide opinion amongst football fanbases with the comparisons to rugby shirts frequently mentioned.
The kit holds huge significance with an aspect of storytelling. By commemorating 75 years since Ted Drake introduced the Blues identity and lion emblem, the design feels rooted in Chelsea’s history.
Compared to some of Chelsea’s recent home shirts, this edition feels elegant in its simplicity while including details that make it stand out from its predecessors. I like the design, it feels premium and looks like the type of kit that might encourage success on the football pitch.
