The City Standard — a fresh home design for 26/27

Manchester City have unveiled their new home kit for the new 2026/27 season. The kit feels like a bold but well-thought-out step away from the club’s usual look. Instead of sticking with the traditional single-tone sky blue, the shirt introduces a smooth gradient effect that fades from a richer blue around the shoulders into white towards the bottom. It’s a subtle change at first glance, but the concept behind it – reflecting the different shades of blue worn throughout the club’s history – gives the design a lot more meaning.

The detail that helps the kit stand out is how clean everything else has been kept. The white collar and sleeve cuffs give it a sharp finish without overcomplicating the design, while the metallic silver crest and sponsor logos add a modern touch that works surprisingly well against the lighter tones. It definitely feels different enough to stand out from previous City kits, but still recognisable as a Manchester City shirt.

Initial reactions will probably divide opinion, especially among fans who prefer the club’s more classic home kits, but there’s no denying that this one feels fresh and carefully designed rather than different for the sake of it. At £85 for the replica version and £125 for the authentic shirt, it sits in line with modern football kit prices, though the authentic version may feel a little steep for casual supporters.

All in all, I think this is a good switch up from recent Manchester City kits because they had been feeling a little repetitive. I think this new design will help give the club a more fresh feel going into this new era without many legendary players and the most legendary figure of all, Pep Guardiola.
